Diablo 2 Resurrected: The Warlock Class Brings New Life to Sanctuary

A quarter of a century after the Lord of Destruction expansion, Blizzard Entertainment has returned to Sanctuary. On February 17, 2026, the studio released Reign of the Warlock, the first major content drop for Diablo 2 Resurrected since its 2021 remaster. The centerpiece of this DLC is the introduction of the Warlock Class, a dark caster that bends demonic forces to its will.

The Warlock Class is unlike anything previously seen in Diablo 2. While the Sorceress controls the elements and the Necromancer raises the dead, the Warlock specializes in binding living demons. The class features three skill trees: Demon focuses on summoning and mind-controlling enemies, Eldritch enhances weapons with psychic magic, and Chaos delivers fire and entropy spells. The signature mechanic allows players to permanently bind a defeated demon, turning it into a passive buff. Alternatively, the Warlock can consume the creature entirely for a temporary surge in power. This risk-reward system forces constant decision-making during combat.

Visually, the Warlock Class stands out immediately. Instead of holding weapons, the character levitates them telekinetically. This allows for a two-handed sword to be wielded in one hand while a grimoire or shield occupies the other. The class also includes Blade Warp, a built-in teleport ability that removes the need for the expensive Enigma runeword. Voice actor Rahul Kohli provides the character's voice, adding weight to the dark fantasy setting.

Beyond the new class, Reign of the Warlock adds requested quality-of-life features. A native Loot Filter eliminates the need for third-party modification tools. The Chronicle system tracks every item a player has ever found, encouraging completionist goals. The shared stash has been reorganized with tabs that stack gems, runes, and crafting materials, greatly reducing inventory management time.

Endgame players receive attention as well. Terror Zones can now be influenced by consumable items, allowing farmers to target specific acts for rare drops. Beating Act Bosses in these zones drops statues. Collecting all five summons the Colossal Ancients, a new super-boss designed for fully geared level 99 characters. Rewards include unique cosmetics and guaranteed high-rune drops.

The Warlock Class is available exclusively through the Infernal Edition of diablo2 resurrected, a $40 package that includes the base game and expansion. Existing owners can upgrade for $25. The release also marks the game's debut on Steam, with cross-progression supported across PC and consoles. Early reviews on the platform rate the expansion at 90% positive, though some players note that the Warlock overshadows older classes in late-game farming. Nevertheless, for veterans who have spent years running Baal and Diablo, the Warlock Class offers a fresh reason to return to the grind.
